Registration of EU/EEA citizens

Citizens of the European Union/EEA may stay in the territory of the Slovak Republic without registration of residence for a maximum of 3 months from the date of entry into the country. In this case, however, they are obliged to report the beginning of their stay to the locally competent Foreign Police Department within 10 working days of arrival.

If the stay exceeds 3 months, EU citizens are obliged to register their residence in person at the Foreign Police Department, no later than 30 days after the expiry of the three-month period.

After registration, a residence card with a validity of 5 years will be issued.

An EU citizen automatically acquires the right to permanent residence after 5 years of continuous and legal residence in Slovakia.
